LECTURE HALL NAMED AFTER ACADEMICIAN  K.I. SATPAYEV (Б-201)

Kanysh Imantaevich Satpayev - scientist-geologist, doctor of mineralogical sciences, professor, academician.

He was born on April 12, 1899 in Bayanaul district of Pavlodar region (formerly Akkelinskaya volost of Pavlodar uyezd of Semipalatinsk province) in the family of Imantai Bi.

In 1909-1911 Kanysh studied in Russian-Kazakh school in his native village, in 1918 graduated from Semipalatinsk teacher's seminary. Then he worked as a teacher in Semey city and in his village for several years, in 1920-1921 he was a people's judge of the 10th precinct of Bayanaulsky district.

In 1921, Kanysh Imantaevich entered the geological exploration department of the Tomsk Technological Institute. After graduation from the Institute, K.I. Satpayev returned to his native country and devoted most of his life to the study of its geology and creation of mineral and raw material base of his native land, made a huge contribution to the introduction of the results of exploration, scientific research in production, construction of giants of industry in the republic. In 1920-1930s he was in charge of extensive exploration works and, with direct participation in them, wrote fundamental scientific works on polymetallic ores of Zhezkazgan-Ulytau, Karsakpai, Karatau.

Kanysh Imantayevich, who in 1926-1941 was the head of the geological department and chief geologist of the trust Atbasar, Karsakpai, convincingly proved that the largest copper ores of Zhezkazgan belong to rich areas, paying special attention to such regions as Saryarka, Ore Altai, rich in minerals.

A vivid manifestation of Academician K. I. Satpayev's multifaceted talent is that he is a great organizer of scientific works. The treasure he bequeathed to his people is the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan.

Kanysh Imantayevich was invited to scientific and organizational work in 1941. That year he was elected deputy of the Kazakh branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Since 1943 - chairman of the branch. In the same year K. I. Satpayev was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences for his outstanding achievements in geology, and from 1946 a full member (academician). He was the first academician to emerge from among the representatives of the peoples of the rising sun republics that joined the USSR at that time.

The brightest event in the life of the republic was the opening of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (now the National Academy of Sciences of the RK) on June 1, 1946 on the basis of the Kazakh branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The first full members of the Academy were approved 14 people - Satpayev K. I.; Auezov M. O.; Bekturov A. B.; Sauranbaev N. T. and others.

As president of the Academy, Satpayev Kanysh Imantaevich attached great importance to linking science and production, introduction of scientific achievements in production. He led the National Academy of Sciences, which he founded, for 16 years from 1946 to 1952 and from 1955 to 1964, while the Institute of Geological Sciences was continuously led from 1941 to 1964, except for a three-year break.

Kanysh Imantayevich made a great contribution to the definition of methodological theoretical foundations for the compilation of prognostic maps of mineral resources. In 1958, a group of scientists led by K. I. Satpayev was awarded the Lenin Prize for the development of comprehensive metallogenic and prognostic maps of Central Kazakhstan. Back in those fifties, the complex metallogenic forecast gave significant results for the introduction of maps into production: in the Saryarka region were discovered new ores of ferrous, non-ferrous and rare metals. 90% of the discovered ore marks were identified on the basis of prognostic maps.

From 1958 to 1964 he was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a delegate to the XXI-XXIII Congresses of the CPSU, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, a member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the Soviet Union.

К. I. Satpayev at that time was a four-time holder of the Order of Lenin, holder of the Lenin and State Prizes.

Kanysh Imantaevich died on January 31, 1964 in the Kremlin Hospital in Moscow.
