A delegation of scientists and doctoral students from the Department of Metallurgy of ToU visited their colleagues from the Department of Metallurgy of Istanbul Technical University (QS WUR 2025 = 326).
The scientists discussed the existing approaches in the research groups of universities and the results of research on industrial waste recycling, development of carbon neutrality, improvement of ferroalloy and aluminum production processes, as well as the results of research in the field of aluminum mud processing, their use in obtaining ferroalloys by aluminothermy, projects in the field of hydrogen use in metallurgy as a reducing agent for silicon, chromium, iron, and aluminum oxides.
Further joint scientific research in the field of involving man-made waste in metallurgical processing and scaling up of these studies through international grants and broader collaboration with other universities in Kazakhstan and foreign countries is planned.
In turn, doctoral students of Toraighyrov University got the opportunity to participate in the experimental research of ITU professor Onuralp Yucel during their scientific internship at ITU.
It is worth noting that the research of ToU scientists is funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education within the framework of the projects “Development and study of the technology for smelting ferrosilicon with a high aluminum content using substandard ash and aluminum mud” (scientific supervisor - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Ablai Zhunusov), “Complex processing of bauxites of Kazakhstan with additional extraction of iron by alternative reducing agents in the implementation of the low-carbon development strategy” (scientific supervisor - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Pyotr Bykov), “Development of a waste-free complex technology for processing ash and waste from aluminum production to obtain in-demand industrial products” (scientific supervisor - PhD, Altynsary Bakirov).
