The sphere of professional activity:

Public and private enterprises and organizations that develop, implement and use information systems in various fields (engineering, metallurgy, transport, telecommunications, science and education, health care, agriculture, service, administrative governance, economy, business, management of various technologies).

The tasks of professional activity are as follows:

- design and development of various components of information systems;

- installation, configuration and administration of the network infrastructure of information systems;

- design and administration of databases of information systems;

- support of information, software, technical, organizational and legal maintenance of information systems and their elements.

The training includes the following courses: Algorithmization and Programming Languages, Fundamentals of Information Systems, Information Security and Information Protection, Circuitry Engineering, Programming Technology, Database Systems, Architecture of Computer Systems, Fundamentals of Computer Modeling; Economics and Organization of Production, WEB Technologies, Computer Networks.

Areas of professional activity are as follows:

- conducting production, design and research activities in the fields where the methods of computer science and applied mathematics are used;

- ensuring the effective functioning and management of organizations in accordance with the trends of modern information technology;

- carrying out teaching activity in educational institutions of secondary general, primary and secondary vocational education, in educational centers for IT technologies.

Types of professional activity:

- Research: analysis, theoretical and experimental research of methods, algorithms, programs, hardware and software complexes and systems.

- Production: creating components of computing and automated systems, developing programs and software systems of the specified quality in a given period of time; testing and debugging software and hardware.

- Administrative and managerial activity: choosing the technology and software tools for organization of the development and research processes of objects of professional activity; organization of particular stages of the process of professional activity objects development; control and management of the process of professional activity objects development.

- Design engineering activity: the development of requirements and specifications of certain components of objects of professional activity on the basis of analysis of the domain models users’ requests and the capability of engineering tools; design of the architecture of components of hardware and software systems; design of a human-machine interface of hardware and software systems.

- Education: design, development and implementation of the latest computer technologies into the learning process; development of teaching materials based on modern methods, tools and technologies in accordance with established standards; introduction of various forms of distance education, electronic forms of performance monitoring.

Students take an active part in research work: they participate in national scientific conferences and competitions; they are the winners of the Republican Olympiad in Computer Science and Programming. The students in the Department have participated in the exhibition of undergraduate and master’s degree students’ software engineering projects (by using Microsoft products) and the second Olympiad of projects in innovative technologies INTECH’05, they have been awarded certificates.
