A delegation of scientists from the Department of Metallurgy of Toraighyrov University participated in the international forum within the framework of the European Union project ERA-MIN 3 “Zero Waste Valorisation of Feldspathic Ores: Green and Sustainable Resource Use for Strategic Raw Materials – VALORE 2025” with the participation of scientists from universities in Turkey, Sweden, Slovakia, Great Britain, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which was held at Mugla Sıtkı Kosman University.
At the forum, the head of the Department of Metallurgy Ablai Zhunussov, professor Petr Bykov, associate professor Altynsary Bakirov and doctoral student Hamit Temirtas presented the results of their own research on the topic “Current state of aluminum production in Kazakhstan and waste recycling research”.
In recent years, scientists from the Department of Metallurgy at Toraighyrov University have been conducting experimental research to find effective options for involving alumina production waste and bottom-ash waste from thermal power plants in industrial production with a minimal carbon trace.
These studies are funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education within the framework of the projects "Development of a waste-free integrated technology for processing ash and waste from aluminum production to obtain industrial products in demand" (scientific supervisor - PhD Bakirov A.G.), "Development and study of the technology for smelting ferrosilicon with a high aluminum content using substandard ash and aluminum slag" (scientific supervisor - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Zhunusov A.K.), "Integrated processing of bauxites in Kazakhstan with additional iron extraction using alternative reducing agents during the implementation of a low-carbon development strategy" (scientific supervisor - Candidate of Technical Sciences,, Professor Bykov P.O.).
It is worth noting that agreements were reached on the development of further joint research in the area of recycling industrial waste from metallurgy and energy, promoting the achievement of carbon neutrality with universities Mugla Sıtkı Kosman University, Firat University (Turkey), Lulea University of Technology (Sweden), Institute of Geotechnics SAS (Slovakia), Element Six Inc. (Great Britain).
